Specialty Camp Grades 1-3

Beautiful butterflies and buzzing bees! We hope you join us as we learn all about MN ecology and native pollinators! During this two week, hands on session, campers will explore waterways and water systems as well as types of native plants. We will plant native MN species to help add beneficial pollinator habitats and explore as areas needed to create long term systemic support. We will spend time in Breck's wild garden and search for caterpillar larva too! You don't want to miss it...this course is sure to have BSP Campers buzzin'! This course offers an immersive environment for kids to explore the popular worlds of Minecraft and Roblox. Every student will design, plan, and build their own 3D world! We will show your Ninja how to create characters, obbies (obstacles), 2D & 3D textures for their Minecraft worlds and various other features of both games. Become a virtual explorer and create adventures, play games, roleplay, and learn with friends in a family-friendly 3D environment. This course is not textbook based; it will be guided by our awesome Code Senseis. Your Ninja will have a blast while building confidence, experiencing teamwork, and growing their problem solving, critical thinking and logical thinking skills!

Can't get enough art & clay? In this two week class there will be time to explore all the wonderful squishy, sticky, sparkly things about clay. We will make clay projects that are enchanting, marvelous, and silly; some that are even useful, and probably a few duds. Learning the art of clay is a joyful process, whatever the outcome. Join Breck's beloved "Mayor of Artville", Carol Grams for this fun {and messy} session!

Resident Origami Master Liam Kurth needs your help in the biggest origami adventure of the summer! Discover a world of folding, cutting, and crafting as we develop our skills together in guided lessons that will equip campers with all the strategies they need to explore on their own. These will come in handy as we unravel the mystery of the missing origami, assemble a paper menagerie, and don our handmade armor for Samurai Day! Many fun surprises await in Operation Origami—there’s no telling how the summer will unfold!

Due to the three day session, we will not be diving into Specialty Camps this session. Please explore Camp Breck for second session programming. Campers will spend this Camp Breck session with fun-filled days enjoying BSP's giant inflatable water slide, theme days, extra pool time and more! 

Let your Ninja experience new facets of the exciting world of coding and computing with Makey Makey and Scratch Programming. Campers will invent and modify their own electronic devices with Makey Makey using everyday objects--imagine using Play-Dough to craft a gaming controller, or fresh fruits to make a piano! The possibilities are endless and, to be honest, really cool! Then with Scratch, campers will learn to develop their own stories, animations, and games in an easy to learn visual coding environment. Campers can also use Makey Makey devices to control their Scratch creations! Push the boundaries of your Ninja's creativity with this camp, led by our amazing Code Ninja Senseis.

Fill your morning with fantastical friends in this hands-on, out of this world engineering course. Throughout this session, campers will engage in daily engineering challenges centered around magical creatures, MARVEL-ous characters, and galaxies far, far, away. Join R2-D2 and Luke Skywalker and team up with your campmates to create the ultimate lightsaber. Explore the Marvel® universe and learn how your favorite superheroes save the day! Stretch your imagination as you design and build a unicorn with a confetti launching horn. Breck Lower School teacher, Ty Thayer, guides you as you Ewok this way to the most mythical and magical session ever!

Stick forts? Check! Digging for worms? Check! Beach volleyball and swimming? Check…check! Campers, it’s time to head outside and explore the outdoors! Join Ms. Richey for this two week session filled with a variety of outdoor adventures. We are sure to stay busy as we create personal terrariums, bird feeders, and spend time in the woods playing games and building forts. Campers will also venture off campus to go paddle boating and visit the JD Children’s Garden to pick fresh fruit and more! No outdoor experience would be complete without s’mores and songs around the campfire. Grab your sunscreen and let’s get outside!

Ahoy, Mateys! BSP's own, Captain Liam is eager to take you on a voyage you will never forget! It's all hands on deck as you build model boats & catapults, follow your own treasure map to find the hidden gems, and learn to tie knots! All you need to survive the high seas is a great attitude and creativity. Work collaboratively with your fellow pirate crewmates, or you may have to walk the plank! What arrrrgh you waiting for? You don't want to miss the boat on this one!

Calling all Harry Potter enthusiasts: Join us for this two week course as we practice mixing potions, making wands and a Harry Potter-inspired snacks. We will also send each other letters using our very own Messenger Owls and even play a few rounds of Quidditch. On the first day, campers will get a turn to sit under the BSP “Sorting Hat” and be placed in our very own “BSP Houses.”

Have you ever wondered how and when Legos were invented?  Do you know how Legos have evolved over the years? Or are you simply someone who can get lost for hours as you create a castle, dream mansion, or an entire city out of Legos? Join us for Lego Mania and spend this session building with friends and fellow Lego enthusiasts!

Does your Ninja love to play video games? Have a competitive streak, perhaps? Our Epic Gamers and Arcade Club is the perfect fit for them! Campers will start this session by playing games such as Roblox, Minecraft, and Super Smash Bros. Campers take what they’ve learned from these modern-classic arcade games, and will transition into coding and modding to create unique arcade games of their own. Once perfected, your coding ninja will showcase their creations on handheld Meowbit codeable arcade consoles. Give your Ninja a taste of what it's like to be a real game developer and playtester!

Fly your way though as you explore the world of your favorite superheroes! BSP & Snapology are joining forces to bring campers this POWerfully engaging, hands-on camp to learn about forces, energy, gravity, and problem solving, as you build models inspired by Superman, Batman, and all your favorite heroes. In the second week of this session, we’ll tinker with engineering and robotics concepts. Campers will use teamwork and collaboration to build water parks, amusement park rides, and create petting zoos. It’ll be a SUPER session where STEAM concepts intersect with creativity and open-ended problem solving!

Join Ms. Tori Richey for a session filled with puppeteering, marionette making, script writing and camper transformation! Throughout this two week session, campers will explore how to make themselves into a MUPPET! There is guaranteed to be some silliness happening as campers have endless fun constructing their one-of-a-kind masterpiece. We can't wait to see the creations during their very own end of camp Muppet Show! ​​​​​​

Wishing you could spend your summer outside by the water? Well, consider your wish granted—or should we say your fish? Join Mr. Liam for afternoons on the pond as we explore the shores of Breck’s 52-acre campus, and beyond! If you’ve never so much as seen a fishing rod, or you’re an avid angler, there’s room for all to practice important fishing skills! Campers will learn casting, reeling, tying knots, landing a fish, and, of course, the fine art of spinning a fish tale. With all gear included, and multiple trips to local hotspots, it won’t matter whether we catch sunfish or just sun rays, this class is sure to be a keeper!
